New Westminster Baseball Association is a volunteer run organization. Parent participation is vital to ensuring that the baseball program is successful and registration fees are kept reasonable.
Managers, coaches, and league officials are volunteers. While many of them are parents of players, NWBA is blessed with many volunteers whose children have graduated, whose children aren't yet old enough to play, or who don't have children at all. Parent or not, all volunteers are committed to the same goal: making the best possible experience for all the children in our league.
As a parent, you are a member of NWBA. Although game responsibilities vary slightly for each division, every family in our membership is expected to fulfill their volunteer commitment to their team (by volunteering at their child's games) as well as the League (as a coach, coordinator, event organizer or event support volunteer.)
While we have been very fortunate in our parent volunteers for team associated duties, we have struggled in the past to recruit enough volunteers for League events such as Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Tournaments and Picture Day. We are continuing our League Volunteer Fee for the Spring Season of 2019 for families with players in the T-ball to Intermediate/Junior Divisions.
How does it work?
The time commitment is at least 6 hours of volunteer duties (3 hours for families with ONLY a player in T-ball) You can choose one of three options:
1a) Opt to put your name forward to be selected for one of the following League positions. These positions will count as full completion of the Volunteer time commitment:
a. Head Coach (1 per team)
b. Assistant Coach (only 1 per T-Ball team, max 2 per Rookie and 3 for Minor and above)
c. Team Manager (Rookie and up)
d. NBWA Board member
Please note that if you choose this option, you should also select 2 event volunteer opportunities as back up.
1b) Opt to volunteer at one or more of the following 2019 League events. Please include at least ONE Tournament in your selections:
a. Opening Day – Saturday, April 6th, 2019, midday
b. Picture Day – Sunday, April 14th, 201, afternoon
c. Minor/Major B Tournament (info table, concession, score board etc.) – May 10th to 12th, 2019, Friday evening and all day on the weekend
d. Hyack Tournament (info table, concession, score board etc.) – May 24th to 26th, 2019, Friday evening and all day on the weekend
e. Annual Volunteer Appreciation Fundraiser (tickets sales, raffle sales, set up etc.) – Date TBD, evening
f. Closing Day – Saturday, June 15th, 2019, midday
We are also hosting the 2019 D6 T-ball Jamboree and Rookie All Star tournaments starting June 22nd, 2019.
Each shift in these events will count as 3 hours towards the Volunteer time commitment. All times will be confirmed at beginning of the 2019 Spring Season.
If you choose one of these options, you will be required to supply a cheque in the amount of $100.00 made payable to NWBA and post-dated to July 2nd, 2019 with “Volunteer Fee” in the memo line to the team manager of your oldest child’s team. Throughout the season, you will be contacted with volunteer opportunities and hours will be tracked. If the minimum 6 hours of volunteer time are completed by July 2nd, 2019, the cheque will be destroyed. If not, it will be cashed.
2) Opt for the “Volunteer Fee Buyout” and pay the $100 with your Registration fee. You will not be required to volunteer throughout the season and we will use the funds to hire staff.
Please note that for all options, parents will still be expected to volunteer at a team level (field prep, snacks etc.)
