League Volunteer Fee

Volunteering

New Westminster Baseball Association is a volunteer run organization. Parent participation is vital to ensuring that the baseball program is successful and registration fees are kept reasonable.

Managers, coaches, and league officials are volunteers. While many of them are parents of players, NWBA is blessed with many volunteers whose children have graduated, whose children aren't yet old enough to play, or who don't have children at all. Parent or not, all volunteers are committed to the same goal: making the best possible experience for all the children in our league.

As a parent, you are a member of NWBA. Although game responsibilities vary slightly for each division, every family in our membership is expected to fulfill their volunteer commitment to their team (by volunteering at their child's games) as well as the League (as a coach, coordinator, event organizer or event support volunteer.)

We are continuing our League Volunteer Fee for the Spring Season of 2024 for families with players in the T-ball, Rookie, Minor and Major Divisions.  Please note the two different amounts: $200 for the direct Buy Out at the time of registration, or a $300 deposit cheque which will be deposited if your family's volunteering commitment is not satisfied for the 2024 Spring Season.

How does it work?

We ask all parents at registration to indicate their willingness to volunteer in the following positions:

a. Team Manager (1 per team)
b. Assistant Coach (only 1 per T-Ball team, max 2 per Rookie and 3 for Minor and above)
c. Team Parent (Rookie and up)

or you can opt to be a Parent Volunteer, whose duties may include field preparation, scorekeeping, safety volunteer and pitch counter as needed depending on your child's division AND volunteering two 3 hour shifts during our NWBA Spring Events and Tournaments.

All families who do not pay the Buy Out will be required to supply a cheque in the amount of $300.00, made payable to NWBA and post-dated to July 15th, 2024 with “Volunteer Fee” in the memo line to the Team Parent of your oldest child’s team.

At the start of the season, the Team Parent will designate a schedule of duties and assign parents as needed. Each Team Parent has the authority to decide what method of assigning duties works best for their team (ie one consistent scorekeeper or a rotation.) At the end of the season, if a parent's duties have been fulfilled for their Team and the League, the deposit cheque will be returned.

Families may choose to pay the Buy Out option as part of the registration. PLEASE NOTE - this only exempts families from LEAGUE volunteer duties, parents are still expected to volunteer at the team level for duties like field prep and score keeping.
